Pre-Need

Because we care, we offer a variety of advance funeral planning programs for families in transition.

Today, more and more people are choosing to plan their funerals in advance. We find that there are three basic reasons why our families think this makes sense.

You can relieve an emotional burden from those you love. By being able to make sound decisions in advance, without stress, you can free your loved ones from this responsibility. This allows them to concentrate on supporting each other, rather than being asked to make major decisions at a very emotional time.

You can express your own wishes. Often families are confused about what is proper. They may agonize over what you would have wanted. By selecting your options in advance, there is no doubt. And, you can even change your mind later, if you wish.

You can relieve the financial burden from those you love. If you also choose to handle the funding of your funeral in advance, we have plans that will assure that your survivors will never have to pay additional funds for the services and merchandise you selected.

You may be amazed at how good it makes you feel to get your wishes on file with us. Enjoy the peace of mind in knowing that these decisions have not been left for others to face.

By talking with one of our Funeral Planning Professionals, you will receive all of the information you need to decide what is right for you.

We are anxious to answer all of your questions and there is, of course, no cost or obligation for our services.

Most of our families experience a tremendous relief when they realize that all of the necessary details of their funeral have been taken care of in advance. Relieving this future emotional burden for their loved ones is an important part of planning ahead. This peace within is enhanced when they also realize that the financial burden has been lifted from their loved ones.

Meyer Funeral Home has selected Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company and Homesteaders Life Company as our partners in offering funding for your funeral plan.

Why an Insurance Company?

For many years, most funeral homes have funded such plans through bank trusts. In 1987 the tax laws were changed so that earnings on these trusts became taxable to our families. An insurance-based product is the only choice that can grow tax free.

Why Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company?

The idea for founding Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company (FDLIC) came in 1977 when a group of four independent funeral directors who owned their own funeral businesses put their heads and resources together to solve a problem. They were concerned about the fair and proper representation of prepaid funerals in their communities as well as the long-term effects that prepaid funerals would have on the value of their businesses. In those days, the needs of their funeral homes and their communities were not being met with a safe and secure pre-need insurance product, so they decided to do something about it.

In 1981, Bill Seale, Ernest Welch, Melvin Storm, and Tom Branon, the founders of FDLIC, purchased a small mutual aid insurance company called Wilkerson Burial Association in Brady, Texas. They then converted the mutual aid company into a legal reserve life insurance company, which was the first ever conversion of its kind in Texas. Our founders' initiative and innovative, solution-finding attitude effectively set the tone for the future of FDLIC.

Why Homesteaders?

Homesteaders Life Company is a mutual company (it is owned by policyowners like you) and is based in Des Moines, Iowa. It is a company that offers unique plans for funding prearranged funerals. The company does not offer any other type of insurance.

Founded in 1906, this company has a solid reputation for growth and prompt payments of its claims. Throughout its history, the company has always concentrated on funding funeral plans. From the days of the burial association to today's guaranteed funeral plans, Homesteaders' heritage for service and commitment continues to grow.

Our firm's reputation is always at stake, and we choose our business partners very carefully. You can rest assured that your plan is one of the finest offered anywhere. We have studied the cost/benefit of several such plans, and feel very comfortable that Homesteaders offers you the benefits, protection and tax-free growth that make your funeral plan complete.

But I Have Enough Insurance!

The type of insurance that covers the cost of your funeral plan is very special. Unlike most "conventional" insurance policies, your FDLIC or Homesteaders' plan is designed to grow in death benefit for the rest of your life. This annual increase helps assure that your loved ones will not have to pay any additional money for specific goods and services you selected. Meyer Funeral Home has agreed to provide the services and merchandise that you have selected for the proceeds available.

What if There's Not Enough Money?

Meyer Funeral Home has assured you that prices of the "guaranteed" items you selected will not increase faster than the Homesteaders' policy will grow. This protection for you and our firm was a big factor in our decision to use FDLIC or Homesteaders.

Some monthly pay plans have a limited death benefit available in the first one or two years. The benefit is always greater than the amount you have paid on your plan. In the event that death occurs during this period, your loved ones would need to pay only the difference between the money available from FDLIC or Homesteaders and the current cost of the funeral. Beyond this limited period, even our monthly plans are fully protected. If you are not sure whether this limitation applies to your plan, please ask.

What if I Move?

We hope to be able to serve you, but if you should move out of our area, we will help you identify a participating firm so that you may make arrangements there. (Because of price differences, the new firm may not be able to guarantee your original selections.)

Your FDLIC or Homesteaders' benefit is fully transferable to any funeral home in the country.

We want you to feel very good about the steps you have taken and the decisions you have made. Should you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to give us a call anytime.

Should you talk to others who express an interest in the concept of Advance Funeral Planning, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss the benefits with them.
